Free Essays on Two Observations

â€Å"Two Observations† In the essays â€Å"Observing Wolves† and â€Å"First Observations†, we are taken into the minds of two writer’s perspective on their animal subjects. Though both Farley Mowatt and Jane van Lawick-Goodall have similarly isolated themselves in the wilderness in the hope of achieving a higher understanding, their methods, perspective, and observations show two vastly different approaches. The preceding, in conjunct with their two completely different writing styles, shows us a glimpse of nature from practically opposite angles. The two writers began their examinations differently right away. In â€Å"Observing Wolves†, Farley Mowatt expressed care and caution but trying not to get in the way of the wolves so as not to disturb â€Å"the even tenor of their lives too much† (237). He wanted to completely enter their world - but gradually. However, this respect was not demonstrated further into the essay when he attempted to get the animal’s attention by challenging their boundaries. In Jane van Lawick-Goodall’s â€Å"First Observations†, the narrator approached the chimpanzees more objectively. Her first impression of the primates was of their simplicity, but her reaction as she became familiar with them showed a growing awe for the them. Her portrayal of the animals and the jungle in her essay, as well as her careful observations, further showed her fascination and respect. In both essays, the reader could easily expect a different reaction from the observers based o n their thesis’ but are led somewhere completely different. In â€Å"Observing Wolves†, the narrator focused more on his feelings in relationship to the animals. His observations were more light-hearted, yet there was an underlying intensity shown in his admiration of the wolves and his eagerness to identify with them. The humor and expressiveness of his writing makes the story interesting and exciting; even for a reader with no knowledg... Economics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words - 24

Economics - Essay Example This capital expenditure takes time which cannot be completed in the short-run. Similarly, no existing firm can leave the industry in the short-run. The reason behind this is that whenever a firm sets up in any industry it has to incur some sunk costs. In lay man terms, sunk costs are actually setup costs. These costs are barriers that do not let the firms leave the industry in the short-run as no firm wants to leave the industry without minimizing or cashing in on some of their sunk costs. As we have already discussed, that no firm can be lured into or pushed-out of the industry in the short-run. The reasons that may tempt the other businesses entering into industry are off course profits, as discussed above. There are two types of profit that firm makes in the short run based on its costs and revenue. A firm may be making large profits or break-even in this time-scale. In economic terms break-even is known as normal profit because the calculation includes implicit or opportunity co sts, which are not actual cost and hence a firm which is breaking even is making a profit in accounting terms. Normal Profits are usually denoted by AR=AC. Similarly, apart from normal profit a firm might also be making a Supernormal profit denoted by a equation AR>AC. These profits positions can be shown in the following diagrams: In figure 1 we see the condition in which the firm is making a level of profit that is just enough to persuade the firms to stay in the industry in the short-run but not enough to attract new firms. In short-run when the firm is earning normal profits, the firm is just covering total costs. Since the TC (Total Cost Calculations) also includes implicit costs like opportunity cost of capital employed, return of capital in alternative uses etc. These are not actual costs and hence breaking even would mean that firm is earning profit which it could earning in alternative businesses and hence

ENG 105 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

ENG 105 - Essay Example "Poor governance is a major issue in many African countries, and one that has serious repercussions for long-term food security," says a statement by the International Food Policy Research Institute.† (Africa’s Hunger) It is very disheartening to see the authorities playing this blame game, we have been blaming each other for something devastating but it is time to stop this and work in unison to help these underprivileged people. There is increased awareness these days thanks to sources like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and so on. There are several videos on Youtube showing the fate of young children and adults, who succumb to hunger, this is an ongoing fight to restore parity. â€Å"Every year 15 million children die of hunger.† (The World Hunger Problem) The opulent have enough food to feed their pets and shower their unconditional love on these pets but they often refrain from helping people who need their help the most. Children in Africa can only be saved when the world realizes their problem and unites to solve this long standing problem. Numerous lives have already been lost and many more will succumb to the same in the near future should nothing be done about it. â€Å"Throughout the 1990s more than 100 million children will die from illness and starvation. Those 100 million deaths could be prevented for the price of ten Stealth bombers, or what the world spends on its military in two days!† (The World Hunger Problem) New weapons to destroy each other are being designed by shelling out a fortune almost each day but the people become insensitive when they hear about the suffering of other people. Even young children fail to get the attention when they need it the most. This is very disturbing both emotionally and physically. â€Å"Children are the most visible victims of under nutrition.   Children who are poorly nourished suffer up to 160 days of illness each year. Poor nutrition plays a role in at least

Quality Management Concept

Quality Management Concept This report mainly discusses quality management. The concept of quality management and its four different quality management schemes adopt in commercial operations. And briefly discuss about quality controls and their benefits to the customers by Adidas Company which engaged in London Olympics 2012 as official partner. Through out the first question discussed about the quality management concept and features which use to identify quality. And quality in terms of business and services perspective and how quality can be define with customer satisfaction. Also how quality management can be measured. As second step briefly discussed about four different quality management schemes adapt to commercial operations and the similarities and differences of each quality management schema. And discuss its importance of communication and record keeping within the organization. Select an organization which engaged in London Olympics 2012 and did quality audit and gave recommendations to do the modifications. I have selected Adidas Company which provides equipments, shoes, clothes and accessories to London Olympics 2012. As third part of the report briefly discussed about the information made available to customers and importance of effective marketing. Importance of user and nonuser surveys when determining customer needs. And what are the consultation methods used by the represented groups to encourage the participation for London Olympics 2012. Finally evaluate the value of complaints procedure and quality improvements. As fourth question of the report analyse the role of self assessment of own quality management system. And discussed about the staff consultation to implement effective quality scheme and I have proposed new modifications and ideas to improve the existing quality management schema. Question One: Concept of Quality Management Quality is the totality of features and characteristics of a product or service that bear on its ability to satisfy stated or implied needs. Quality programs include Fitness for use. (Is the product or service capable of being used?) Fitness for purpose. (Does the product or service meet its intended purpose?) Customer satisfaction. (Does the product or service meet the customers expectations?) Conformance to the requirements. (Does the product or service conform to the requirements?) Define quality in terms of business and service provision The business and service organization is profited by selling their products and services. To keep the quality of the products and services these companies must practice the quality management. The quality must be including in all steps of production process of product or service. The best quality is key concept to improve sales as well as marketing tool. The quality is key element of Competition in the market. The organization is manufacturing products. The product must be capable to fit for use, confirm the manufactures requirements. And also meet its intended purpose as planned by the business organization. As same as the organization is service provided one, then the service must be fit to the requirements of the company, it must meet the intended purpose of a particular service of the company and confirm its requirements. Define quality in terms of customer satisfaction The customer is the most important person of the business and service organizations. These organizations manufacturing goods and services to full fill the requirements of the customers. The organizations existence is depends on the customer satisfaction. The products and services must be able to meet the customers expectations by the product and service. The product and the service must be value its price paid by the customer. The customers are attracted to the best quality products and services. After consuming product or service the customer is satisfied and, the customer thinks to buy the same product or service again, then product or service represents best quality. Then the customer has confidents to buy other new arrivals. Due to best quality some trade marks are more popular. These products and services satisfy the customers in higher level. How quality management can be measured Quality management can be measured in different ways. Number of scraped goods, reworks done for produce goods, additional material or inventory which do not use for particular production, warranty repairs or service done for sold goods, customer complaints made for sold goods and services, liability judgement made for goods and services, product recalls and product corrective actions taken to products. The above mentioned measurements are considerably high the products or services are not in a bests quality. Question Two: Four different Quality Management schemes appropriate to commercial operations The Quality Management Systems (QMS) scheme helps organisations to meet customers quality requirements and relevant regulatory requirements, while also enhancing customer satisfaction and achieving continual improvement of its performance. Describe the rationale underpinning four quality schemes commonly adopted by commercial operations Quality Planning Quality planning is the process of identifying the quality standards according to the products and services which produce in the organization and determining how to satisfy the particular quality standards. Identify the particular quality policy, scope statement, product description, quality standards and regulations as products and services. Then use cost benefit analysis, benchmarking, flowcharts and design experiment methods to determine the current quality levels and identify the gap between the identified quality standards and current position. Then determine quality management plan, checklists and input to other processes, as the final stage. The above mentioned quality planning methods represents the quality position of the organization and produce best quality products and services. The quality planning is also carrying out as quality management scheme. Quality Assurance Quality Assurance is the process of evaluating overall production performance on a regular basis and assures the productions satisfaction in terms of quality standards. Evaluate quality management plan, evaluate results of quality control measurements and operational definitions. And use quality planning tools, techniques and quality audits for evaluate overall production performance. Then give confidents of production satisfaction in terms of quality standards. So quality assurance is also a quality management scheme. Quality Control Monitoring products and services to determine if they comply with relevant quality standards and identifying ways to eliminate the poor performance of the production process. Monitoring work results, quality management plan, operational definitions and checklists in the production processes of product or service. Then use quality control methods of inspections, control charts, pareto diagrams, statistical sampling, flowcharting and trend analysis to identify lower performance of the production process. Then do quality improvements, change acceptance decisions, do rework, completed checklists and do process adjustment as quality improve decisions of quality control scheme. Total Quality Management Implementing quality improvement programmes within the organization to maintain the particular quality standards. Maintaining quality programmes in all stages of production process (planning, training and induction, process control, field testing, product design validation, process validation, test and evaluations, quality audits, maintain and calibration) and among the staff(senior manager, production manager and production staff) who are working in the organization. Identify main similarities and differences between quality schemes Similarities All these quality schemes are based on particular quality standards of the product or service. Quality control and quality planning schemes take corrective actions to minimize the poor performance of the production process. Quality assurance and quality control evaluates the current quality levels of the organization and come up to a decision. Total quality management and quality control change the quality practice continuously. Differences In quality planning schema based only on the previously planned quality levels. Quality assurance schema consider only about the level of quality assurance. Quality control schema continually improves the performance of the quality practice. Total quality management implementing quality programmes, if usable or non usable as stage of the production process. Explain importance of communication and record keeping in quality schemes By communicating quality schemas give the new ideas to develop the quality practices within the organization. Communication identifies the purpose for the weak points of the low quality production steps. And also identifies the best schema to carry out in the quality management system. Record keeping compare the past results and identify the weak points within the production process of goods and services. Can be used to draw statistical diagrams and identify the major defects and improve the particular stages of the process and for analysis purposes. Record keeping makes easy, the benchmarking processes with other organizations. Question Three: Quality Controls and their benefits to the customers Adidas Company is one official partner of the London Olympic 2012. That provides shoes, clothes, accessories and equipment for London Olympic 2012. Assess the information made available to customers and the importance given to effective marketing Information is available through internet, television and other media. They are highly use internet to send information to the customers. Because they can take the customer feed back through internet faster than other mediums. Information availability improves higher buyer in, improves market presents through easy access using internet, feed back is high therefore significantly can be improve customer satisfaction, faster transaction times, more efficient order processing and due to less manual work the fewer errors. Can be able to keep existing customers introducing new styles, attract new customers using different prices and styles, can be able to make a trend in the market using marketing and increase market share, taking feedback from customers and improve the quality and new arrivals to the market. Evaluate the benefit of user and non user surveys in determining customer needs User surveys Users are the existing customers. To keep them the new products and style must be introduce for that their customer satisfaction is more important. By doing user surveys can be able to identify their needs, expectations, and the trend in the market. And also can be able to identify limitations. The user surveys can be easily done from the audience of London Olympics 2012. Non user surveys Non users are also customers. They were non users may be due to unaffordable prices or dislike to the products. From these surveys the Adidas can identify the reason and can be able to produce products for their desire while keeping the standards of the company. Olympics is in 2012 from these surveys helps introduce new fashions. Examine the methods of consultation employed to encourage participation by under represented groups Publish the growth undertaken after joining as a partner of London Olympics 2012; Show the sales improvements within that period through media discussion and press conference. The new arrivals can be market through the Olympic 2012 through internet and television. Release newspaper articles about, the benefits gain by participating London Olympics2012. Investigate the value of complaints procedure and analyse how each is used to improve quality Identify weaknesses The customers identify weakness points of the products. That can be size requirements, colour requirements and etc. Then the Adidas can change the products as customer perception. Identify low quality points Some products can be broken only in one place, all the times (must be continuous customer) If they received considerable number of complaints about a particular cloth or shoes or etc. then Adidas can identify this low quality point and will be able to improve quality. Complaints about after sales services Can be complaint about the staff who provided after sales services. Then the Adidas can improve the quality of the employees who are employing in their company. Question Four: Principles of Quality Management Role of self assessment in order to determine an Organizations quality management The quality policy must develop as first step by the Management team. The quality improvement team must establish representing all the departments of the company. Quality must be measures continuously to reduce quality awareness errors. The corrective actions must be taken for quality issues and zero defects planning must be done to the future productions. The identified errors can be removal through daily quality checking and reduces the error making purposes. Then critically recognise the particular point will help to improve the quality. Employees must be educating about the quality standards and issues and the importance of quality work and quality council must work daily basis and planned a zero defects day. Explain the stages of staff consultation necessary for effective implementation of a quality scheme Staffs are responsible for the production. Quality of the product or service is depending on the quality work done by the staff. During the planning stage to after sales services stage, the staff must do the quality work. The surveys can be done through the staff about quality scheme of the company. The documents are also filled according to the quality standards. The workforce planning is also should be change for effective implementation of quality scheme. The time management and material management must be quality for the effective implementation. Train the new staff for the particular positions then the errors will reduce and improve the quality scheme. Propose new systems or modifications to existing systems that could improve service quality The quality standard and policies must be change according to new trends and customer perceptions. Continues improvement is more practical because it is not cost very much.

Advantages of a Web-Based System

Efficiency is Everything One of the essential characteristics of the Internet Age is speed.   As a matter of fact, companies – whether large or small – cannot gain a competitive edge in our times without the use of the World Wide Web in their day to day activities.   The Internet speeds up communication, thereby allowing collection agencies to pursue debt payments faster than before.   Moreover, the collection of debts can be speeded up by the employment of a web-based system at Cougar Collection Agency. Another important advantage of a web-based system is that it would allow you to view the accounts even as you travel.   Clients would be given real time access to information through their own web browsers.   Furthermore, Cougar Collection Agency may employ data entry clerks and collectors to work from their homes – thereby cutting costs (â€Å"Web Access,† 2007). State-of-the-art web-based systems are available at reasonable costs Collect!’s Web Host is only one of many companies willing to help Cougar Collection Agency in collecting payments more efficiently than before.   The company creates web-based systems for collection agencies at reasonable costs.   These systems are â€Å"fully integrated and easy to set up;† â€Å"highly customizable;† as well as secure (â€Å"Web Access†). Conclusion Indeed, Cougar Collection Agency would be able to reduce costs while increasing efficiency by the employment of a web-based system. References Web Access. (2007). Collect! Everything You Need to Know About Kenya Essay

Kenya is a country in the continent of Africa, on the Indian Ocean coast of East Africa. This country has land on both sides of the equator. This report is going to tell you all about this fascinating country. Jambo (Hello), and we can begin our safari (journey). â€Å"Jambo† and â€Å"safari† are Kiswahili words, one of the languages of Kenya. Kenya is about two times the size of Nevada. It’s slightly smaller than Texas and slightly larger than California, our 2nd and 3rd largest states respectively. The countries that border Kenya are Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, and Uganda. Kenya is not landlocked because the Indian Ocean borders Kenya to its right. Kenya is in both the northern and eastern hemispheres. Some major landforms in Kenya include the Kenyan Highlands, Mt. Kenya, the Great Rift Valley, Mau Escarpment, and Mt. Marsabit. The highest elevation is Mount Kenya at 17,057 feet, which is also one of the tallest in Africa. The capital of Kenya is Nairobi. The distance from Nairobi (the capital of Kenya) to Washington D.C. is 7,548 miles. The geography of Kenya supplies some advantages. One area that displays this is the highlands. The highlands provide Kenya with one of the best agricultural regions in Africa. There is rich soil and fertile ground. There is plentiful rainfall and mild climate perfect for farming. High altitude is also great for growing coffee and tea. Kenya is the 4th largest tea producer in the world. Farming provides jobs to the people that live there. Exporting crops such as coffee and tea help provide money in the country. The one and only type of natural vegetation in Kenya is tropical grassland. They have no active volcanoes, but a few centuries ago Mt. Kenya was a volcano. The distance from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, to the equator is approximately 216 miles. The climate of Kenya is varied. However, overall, the one-month it rains the  most in Kenya is in April when they get 6.3 inches. The average temperature in January is about 68 degrees while in July it’s 63 degrees. The many climates in Kenya include tropical wet, tropical wet and dry, arid, and semiarid. Arid is a dry region and receives approximately 5 inches of rain per year. In the summer Kenya gets .6 inches of rain and in the winter receives .1 inches. The temperature in the summer is 81 degrees Fahrenheit and the winter about 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Semiarid is considered a dry climate type. Summers average 79 degrees Fahrenheit and in the winter averages 51 degrees Fahrenheit. The yearly rainfall is 10 inches in the summer 3.4 and .2 in the winter. Tropical wet and dry is considered a tropical climate. It’s hot all year, averaging 79 degrees all year. It receives about 50 inches of rainfall per year with 10 inches in the summer and .2 inches in the winter. I will now tell you about the history of Kenya before European exploration. Early tribal groups have started to settle in Kenya as far back as 2000 BC. The main reason tribes came here was for the rich, fertile ground, which would be good for farming. Both the highlands and the Rift Valley provided this in southern Kenya. The first migrants to arrive were pastoral nomads from Ethiopia who were in search of fertile ground, which they could use to graze their flocks. They were soon forced to leave and go into central Tanzania because of the climate changes over the centuries and water had begun to be scarce. The Yaaku, or Eastern Cushites, came 1,000 years later and settled in central Kenya. It seems that the Yaaku had been the leader and many more tribes came as the followers and by 100 AD there has been nearly 1,400 pastoral communities in the Rift Valley region. Next, I will tell you about the people of Kenya. The population of Kenya is 31,138,735 people. There are 2,310,000 people living in Nairobi. The population  density is 139 people per square miles in Kenya. Kenya is rural in most  areas, but urban in the capital. The official language of Kenya is English and Kiswahili (Swahili). The major ethnic group of Kenya is Kikuyu, which makes up 22% of the population. The major religion of Kenya is Protestant. 45% of the people follow the Protestant religion. The literacy rate in Kenya is 78.1% overall. Males are 86.3% literate, and women are 70% literate. Many areas lack good education. The life expectancy for women is 48 while the men are expected to life to 46. The population trend is growing greatly at 1.15% per year. One major illness that Kenyans suffer greatly from is HIV/AIDS. I will now tell you about the economy. The major type of economic activity is agriculture including herding and farming. Approximately 75-80% of the working population are in agriculture. It is a primary activity. The main agricultural product is tea. Kenya relies on coffee, tea, and flowers as their limited amount of cash crops. Although they have areas for farming, due to the large population and climate and weather problems, Kenya suffers with both starvation and famine. Some of their leading exports include coffee, tea, and flowers. They have a trade deficit with 3.1 million dollars imported and 1.8 million dollars exported. The major trading partners with Kenya are UK, Tanzania, and Uganda. The major imports Kenya receives are machinery and transportation equipment, petroleum products, motor vehicles, iron and steel, resins, and plastics. The per capita GDP is $1,000 per person. The major natural resource is hydroelectric power. Other natural resources include gold, limestone, s oda ash, salt barites, garnets, and rubies. The currency is called a Kenyan Schilling. A US dollar is worth 77 Kenyan Schillings. I will now tell you about the politics and government of Kenya. The type of government in Kenya is a republic. Recently, the government has not changed. The current leader of Kenya is President Mwal Kibaki. The date Kenya was granted its independence was on December 12th, 1963. The country got its name when Europeans mispronounced the name Kikuyu (what Kenya was then called) for Kenya. The same occurred with the name for Mt. Kenya. There have been no recent civil wars. The ambassador to the US is Yusuf Abdulraham. The name of the major political party is the Forum for the Restoration of Democracy also known as FORD. The international organizations Kenya is a  part of include the UN (The United Nations), IMF (International Monetary Fund), WB (World Bank), OAU (Organization of African Unity), and ISO (International Organization of Standardization). The flag of Kenya has many meanings. The shield represents the pride and tradition of Kenya. The black represents the people. The red represents the blood. Green represents the fertile ground. Finally, the white represents peace. I feel that Kenya is still in the developing stage. Much of the area is rural, with an increasing population, particularly in and around the capital. They have many citizens with HIV AIDS, and have many more suffering from starvation. One strength that Kenya has is that they get 40 inches of rainfall per year. That makes it good for farming, in the areas that they can farm. Another strength is the high altitude and Great Rift Valley that not only allows tea and coffee to grow, but it offers more jobs, which is important with a high population density country like Kenya to have. I think that Kenya will not improve in the future unless they reduce the incidence of Aids and eliminate starvation. Due to limited education, lack of a cure for Aids, and weather conditions that cannot be controlled, the future does not look very promising for Kenya.
